A car has a mass of 1200 kg. A man can comfortably push down with a force of 400 N. If the small piston in a hydraulic jack has an area 6 cm2, what is the minimum area of large piston that would enable the man to lift the car? (g 98 ms2) the The man pushes the small piston down 20 cm. How high does this lift the car?

    A) F1/A1=F2/A2

    F2 = 12000 Newtons, while F1 = 400 Newtons and area A1 = 6 cm²

    400/6 = 12000/A2

    A2 = (6 * 12000) / 400

    = 180 cm²

    b) How long does this lift the car

    d2 = F1/F2*d1

    = (400/12000) * 20

    = (1/30) * 20

    = 20/30

    = 0.67 cm

    This lifts the car a distance of 0.67 cm
