    Where T is the tension in the cable, m is the mass of the elevator, and a is the acceleration; remember that the accel can be either up or down

    max tension is needed to accelerate the elevator up:

    T - 4850g=4850 (0.068g)

    T=4850g (1+0.068) = 50762N

    min tension:

    T-4850g=-4850 (0.068)

    T=4850g (1-0.068)

    T=44,298N
