A child is riding a Ferris wheel with his stuffed bear. The wheel has a diameter of 12.0 m, and it rotates at a rate of 4.0 revolutions per minute. When exactly at the top of the ride the child accidentally drops the stuffed bear. Assuming negligible air resistance, how far horizontally from the base of the Ferris wheel does the bear land on the ground?

    The bear lands on the ground at d=3.52m horizontally from the base of the ferris.

    Explanation:

    r = 6m

    h = 12m

    n = 4 rpm = 0.06 rps

    w = n * 2π = 0.377 rad/s

    Vx = w * r

    Vx = 2.26 m/s

    t (fall) = √ (2h/g)

    t (fall) = 1.56 s

    d = Vx * t

    d = 3.52 m
