2. A golfer wishes to chip a shot into the hole 50 m away on flat level ground. If the ball flies to a

maximum height of 25 m, what speed must it have initially to reach the hole?

    Explanation:

    Do SUVAT for the vertical journey, from the start to the maximum height, in order to find the vertical speed at the start. Use the formula v²=u²+2as where v=0, s=25m, a = - 9.8 and u=x. Now find x using the formula above. Then use the formula, v=u+at to find t (fir half the journey). Once t is found, double this answer to find the time taken to reach the whole. now do the horizontal journey to find the horizontal speed. Use s=ut where s=50m, t = the answer you found before, and u=y. now find xly and square it, then add it to the square of x. Then root them bkth to find the answer to the whple question.
