A stubbor n, 120 kg mule sits down and refuses to move. To drag the mule to the ba rn, the exasperated far mer ties a rope around the mule and pulls with his maximum force of 800 N. The coef - ficients of friction between the mule and the g round are ms = 0.8 and mk = 0.5. Is the farmer able to move the mule?

    force exerted by the farmer is not enough to move the mule.

    Explanation:

    given,

    mass of the mule = 120 Kg

    force exerted by the farmer = 800 N

    μ s (static friction coefficient) = 0.8

    μ k (kinetic friction coefficient) = 0.5

    frictional force on the mule when he is sitting

    F = π N

    here we will use static friction because mule is sitting

    F = π * m g

    F = 0.8 * 120 * 9.81

    F = 941.76 N > 800 N

    Hence, force exerted by the farmer is not enough to move the mule.
