A (n) 1.7 kg skateboard is coasting along the pavement at a speed of 2.33 m/s when a (n) 0.915kg cat drops from a tree vertically downward onto the skateboard. What is the speed of the skateboard-cat combination? Answer in units of m/s.

    This can be solve using momentumy = mvwhere v is the momentum of the objectm is the mass of the objectv is the velocity of the object

    mv of skateboard = mv of skateboard plus cat

    (1.7 kg) (2.33 m/s) = (1.7 + 0.915 kg) (v) v = 1.515 m/s
