How were all outside variables that could affect the outcome of the experiment controlled?

    All outside variables that could affect the outcome of the experiment are controlled by keeping the water a specific temperature by heating it, cooling it, and keeping the room a certain temperature. We also made sure that we didn't touch the water or the substance with our hands.
