A certain string breaks when a force of 200 N is exerted on it. If two people pull on opposite ends of the string, each with a force of 180 N, will the string break? Explain

    Answer: The string will not break.

    Explanation:

    Balanced force is defined as the forces which gets cancelled out when equal forces are acting in the opposite direction. The net force on the system comes out to be 0.

    Unbalanced force is defined as the forces which does not get cancelled out because unequal forces act on the system in opposite direction. The motion of the object is in the direction of net force.

    According to the question:

    A certain string breaks when a force of 200 N is acted on it. But, two people are stretching the string from both the ends with equal forces of 180 N each.

    As, the string is pulled with the force less than its breaking force. So, it will not break and also the two forces acting on the string are balanced.

    Hence, the string will not break.
