Since the bread was left in the toaster for too long, it has been burned. The smoke arises as the combustion increases in size. When bread is just warmed or heated, the smoke is less and thus invisible. However, when bread is burned, magnitude of combustion increases, leading to an increase in its products, one of which is smoke.
