The following are the five properties of metal:
Malleability Ductility Thermal conductivity Electrical conductivity Chemical reactivity
Explanation:
All elements that form positive ions by losing electrons during chemical reactions, excluding hydrogen, are called metals. Metals are therefore electropositive elements with relatively low ionizing energy.
Following are the properties of the metals:
Malleability : Metals can withstand hammering, and can be shaped into thin sheets recognized as foils. For instance, a chunk of gold cube sized can be bashed into a thin sheet which will encompass a football field. Ductility : One can plunge metals into wires. For instance, one can draw 100 g silver into a thin wire approximately 200 meters long. Thermal conductivity : The mobile electrons transmit both electric charge and heat across the metal structure. That valence electrons liberty reports for the high thermal conductivity in metals like copper and aluminium. Electrical conductivity : The mobilization of electrically charged particles results in electrical conductivity well into the metals. These have valence electrons that are free to move. The best electrical conductor element is silver, copper and so on. Chemical reactivity : Many metals are much more easily reactive to oxygen or water than others. Many metals are so responsive to produce hydrogen gas, when they react with water. Iron is reactive but not as reactive as sodium.
