A chunk of paraffin (wax) has a mass of 50.4 grams and a volume of 57.9 cm3. What is the density of

paraffin?

    Density = (mass) / (volume)

    = (50.4) / (57.9) = 0.87 gm/cm³

    Since the density is less than 1.0, the paraffin floats in water.

    Since it's so close to 1.0 on the low side, the paraffin floats

    with most of it under the water line.
