    The electric potential energy between two charged particles is calculated through the equation,

    E = Kq1q2 / d²

    From the equation, it is noted that energy is inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. Therefore, if the distance between them is increased to 3 times, the energy between them will be 9 times lesser.
