Volts per division is a measure used by oscilloscope to illustrate volts in the form of waveform on the grid screen. Volts/division setting is a scale factor. 5 volts/division means that each of the vertical division in grid represents 5 volts, such that if a grid has 8 divisions, then it can represent maximally 40 volts.
