A dart is loaded into a spring-loaded toy dart gun by pushing the spring in by a distance

d. for the next loading, the spring is compressed a distance 2d. how much work is required to load the second dart compared to that required to load the first?

    Work is equal to the Force applied multiplied by the distance it is applied to. Work and distance has a direct proportionality relationship, therefore when you increase the distance you apply the same force to compress the spring, this will translate to multiplying the work to the same factor the distance was increase. The answer is twice the work for the second dart.
