Do metals gain or lose electrons in order to acquire a full octet

    Metals are just over a full octet, and non-metals just under. It just occurs as metals have 1-3 valence electrons so it is cooler for metals to lose electron than to gain electron for the reason that they would have to get more electrons as likened to losing electrons. So the answer is lose.
