The specific heat of water is 4.19 x 103 J/kg°C. How much energy will it take to raise the temperature of 0.5 kg of water by 2 degrees?

    Energy required = mass x specific heat x temperature difference

    = 0.5 x 4.19x10^3 x 2

    = 4190J
