An object of mass 10 kg is accelerated upward at 2 m/s squared. what force is required?

    Here net force is in upward direction because object is accelerated in upward direction. Force acting on object in downward direction (F') = mass x acceleration due to gravity = 10 x 9.8 = 98N. Let the force required to move object in upward direction be F. Therefore from Newton's 2nd law of motion, net force = mass x acceleration. F-F' = ma. F = ma + F' = 10x2+98 = 118N. Therefore required force to accelerate object in upward direction is 118N.
