A car of mass 775 kg traveling at a velocity of 30 m/s in the positive x-direction crashes into the rear of a truck of mass 1,475 kg that is at rest and in neutral at an intersection. If the collision is inelastic and the truck moves forward at 11.9 m/s, what is the velocity of the car after the collision? (Indicate the direction with the sign of your answer. Assume the collision is head-on so that the motion of both vehicles remains entirely along the x-direction)

    velocity of the car is 7.3516 m/s

    Explanation:

    M1v1a + m2v1b = m1v2a + m2v2b

    775*30 + 1475*0 = 775*v2a+1475*11.9

    Let v2a be x

    23250 + 0 = 775x + 17552.5

    775x = 23250-17552.5

    775x = 5697.5

    X = 7.3516 m/s
