Sound absorption is the process that when incident sound strikes the surface of a matter, it is not reflected back. When sound wave strikes, it causes the particles of the matter to vibrate. This vibration causes tiny amounts of heat due to the friction and thus sound absorption is accomplished by way of energy to heat conversion. Since sound is also a form of energy and matter can absorb energy that strikes it, matter also absorbs sound energy.
