    Acceleration = change in velocity/time interval in which change occured

    SI unit of velocity = meters/seconds, m. s⁻¹

    SI unit of time = seconds, s

    Hence, acceleration = (m. s⁻¹) / s or m. s⁻¹*s⁻¹ = m. s⁻² = m/s²
