    The four basic perceptual characteristics of sound are pitch, loudness, quality and fidelity. Pitch is the perception of a high or low sound, loudness is the intensity of a sound, phase is the increase and decrease in pressure cycle any single vibration, loudness is a quality defined as the intensity of sound energy as it comes in contact with an eardrum or other surface.
