Describe the properties of a longitudinal wave

    A longitudinal wave is a wave whose direction of oscillation is the same as the direction of propagation. An example of longitudinal waves are sound waves, which consist of alternating regions of compressed/rarefacted air that oscillate in the same direction the wave is travelling to.
