Describe when a light bulb is turned on, the electric current in the filament causes the filament to become hot and glow. If the filament is surrounded by gas, describe how thermal energy is transferred from the filament to the air outside the bulb.

    Traditional Light bulbs (the old yellow kind) had a tungsten filament surrounded by an inert gas commonly Argon, electricity passing through the filament charged the gas ionizing it, and heating it up, this heat and electric charge would ionize the gas enough to cause it to glow, the glow emitted by the gas is proportional to the current passing through the filament, this is why after turning of the light bulb for a second or two the bulb glows dimly as the gas is deionizing ...
