Action hero fired from a cannon with conceptual questions Note: for this problem, you can neglect air resistance. An action hero is trying to use a circus cannon to get to the roof on a building 68.9 meters away. She launches herself from the ground with an initial velocity of 34.1 m/s at an angle 59.9 degrees above the horizontal, but instead of landing on the roof she hits the wall of the building. How high up on the wall does she hit?

    h = 39.3 m

    She hit the building wall at 39.3 m high

    Explanation:

    Given;

    Initial velocity u = 34.1 m/s

    Direction/angle θ = 59.9°

    Horizontal distance d = 68.9 m

    Taking the horizontal component of her motion;

    d = Ux * t

    Ux = ucosθ

    d = ucosθ * t

    Substituting the values;

    68.9 = 34.1cos59.9 * t

    t = 68.9/34.1cos59.9

    t = 4.03 s

    Taking the vertical component of her motion;

    h = Uyt - 0.5gt^2

    Where h is the height she reached.

    g = 9.8m/s^2

    Uy = usin59.9

    h = (34.1sin59.9 * 4.03) - (0.5*9.8*4.03^2)

    h = 39.3 m
