An alloy of gold and silver has a mass of 1050g and a volume of 60cm cubic. if the density of gold is 19.3g/cm cubic and that of silver is 10.5g/cm cubic. Find the mass of gold

    S + G = 1050

    And the total volume is:

    S/10.5 + G/19.3 = 60

    Using substitution:

    S = 1050 - G

    (1050 - G) (19.3) + G (10.5) = 60 (19.3) (10.5)

    20265 - 19.3G + 10.5G = 12159

    8106 = 8.8G

    G = 921.1
