    The statement in #1 is true, but that's NOT the way Science works. Scientists DON'T dream up a theory and then go out looking for evidence to support it. A MUCH better, more accurate way to say it is: "The theory of Continental Drift was a very successful explanation for the coastlines of continents fitting together like puzzle pieces, and also for three other observations."
