Static electricity is generate by two things rubbing together and creating friction which when created enough friction can be converted into electricity. A lot of people have fun with balloons and rubbing them on there hair and then pulling the balloon above there heads and making the hair stand up by itself. But really the hair has electricity in it that is attracted to the balloons electricity which causes it to want to be with the balloon.
