Bonnie and Clyde are sliding a 315 kg bank safe across the floor to their getaway car. The safe slides with a constant speed if Clyde pushes from behind with 381 N of force while Bonnie pulls forward on a rope with 363 N of force.

    Given;

    mass of bank safe, m = 315 kg

    force applied by Clyde, Fc = 381 N

    force applied by Bonnie, Fb = 363 N

    Total horizontal force on the safe = 381 N + 363 N

    Total horizontal force on the safe = 744 N

    Since the safe slides with a constant speed, then the net force on the safe will zero;

    Hence perpendicular force on the safe normal to the floor = horizontal force acting of the safe;

    Rμk = 744 N

    mgμk = 744 N

    (315 x 9.8) μk = 744 N

    (3087) μk = 744

    μk = 744/3087

    μk = 0.24

    Therefore, the safe's coefficient of kinetic friction on the bank floor is 0.24
