A (n) 5.77 g bullet is fired into a (n) 2.32 kg ballistic pendulum and becomes embedded in it. The acceleration of gravity is 9.8 m/s 2. If the pendulum rises a vertical distance of 7.15 cm, calculate the initial speed of the bullet.

    Explanation:

    KE = ½mV²

    Where,

    m = mass in kg

    V = velocity in m/s

    PE = mgh

    g = acceleration of gravity

    = 9.8 m/s²

    KE of bullet is transferred to PE of pendulum plus bullet

    ½mV² = mgh

    ½ (0.00577) V² = (0.00577 + 2.32) * (9.8) * (0.0715)

    Therefore,

    V^2 = 564.88

    V = 23.77 m/s
