What do tire treads, rubber mats, automobile brakes, and tennis shoes have in common?

    They are made of materials that create lots of friction when they make contact with other surfaces. The higher the coefficient of friction, the better the "grip" you have.

    They all contain rubber somehow, & the friction w the rubber and the grip of the rubber.
