If enough energy is added to matter in liquid state, it changes into gas, and during that change, particles start to move more violently. Their kinetic energy increases, and the speed and frequency of their motion also increases. Due to which, the intermolecular distance between particles also increases, and thus, the state changes from liquid to gas.
