A block oscillating on a spring has period t = 3.0 s. note: you do not know values for either m or k. do not assume any particular values for them. the required analysis involves thinking about ratios. part a what is the period if the block's mass is tripled?

    Period, T = 2pi*sqrt (m/k)

    If T=3 sec

    3 = 2pi*sqrt (m/k) = > m/k = (3/2pi) ^2 = 0.228

    If the mass is tripped,

    T = 2pi*sqrt (3m/k) but m/k = 0.228

    T = 2pi*sqrt (3*0.228) = 5.196 seconds
