When the temperature of ice-cold water is increased slightly, does it undergo a net expansion or net contraction?

    As a general rule of thumb, most things expand when given energy. There are a few exception such as solid H2O, it becomes more dense as it melts due to polarity and crystalline configuration. This is liquid H2O given energy so it will expand.
