A tank of oil has a mass of 50 slugs.

A) Determine its weight in pounds and in Newtons at the earth's surface.

B) What would be its mass (in slugs) and its weight (in pounds) if located on the moon's surface where gravitational attraction is 1/6th that at the earth's surface?

    Answer

    given,

    mass of oil tank = 50 slugs

    a) we know,

    1 slug = 32.2 lb

    50 slug = 32.2 x 50

    = 1610 lb

    weight in terms of newton

    1 slug = 14.594 Kg

    50 slug = 50 x 14.594

    = 729.7 kg

    weight = m g

    weight = 729.7 x 9.8

    = 7151.06 N

    b) mass of the oil will be same on moon i. e. = 50 slug

    weight of the oil on the moon will be

    = [tex] / dfrac{1}{6}/times 1610

    = 268.33 lb
