    Using the formula:

    v = u+at

    u (initial velocity) = 1000

    v (final velocity) = 500

    a (acceleration) = unknown

    t (time) = 5

    500=1000+a (5)

    5a=500-1000

    a=-500/5

    = - 100

    Acceleration = - 100m s-2
