Why is speed classified as a scalar quantity and velocity classified as a vector quantity?

    Velocity is classified as a vector quantity as it describes both magnitude and direction.

    Scalars have just magnitude, but vectors have magnitude / and / direction. This is why speed, a magnitude describing how fast something is, is not a scalar quantity; but velocity, which is speed and a direction, is.
