Nitrogen is the element with Atomic Number 7.

That tells us that every atom of Nitrogen has 7 protons in its nucleus.

If an atom has more or less than 7 protons, it's not a Nitrogen atom.

Nitrogen exists in two stable isotopes ... Nitrogen-14, with 7 neutrons

in the nucleus of each atom, and Nitrogen-15, with 8 of them.

An electrically neutral Nitrogen atom has 7 electrons surrounding

the nucleus, and balancing the charge of the 7 protons. But it's

relatively easy to strip away one or more of them without too much

effort or damage to the atom.
