Wind is air in motion. The most common mechanism is:
- - Air in one small area heats up.
- - Heated air becomes lighter (less dense), so it rises.
- - When the heated air rises from where it is, that leaves
a 'hole' on the ground under it ... a place where there
should be more air than there is. That's low pressure.
- - Well! If the pressure in one place is lower than the pressure
in the places all around it, then the air with higher pressure
all around that place starts pouring in, to 'fill the hole'.
Exactly what happens when the bathtub or the kitchen sink
is full, and you pull the plug and open the drain. When you
open the drain, the water that's right over the drain suddenly
goes away, and leaves a 'hole'. Then the water all around
immediately starts running in to fill the 'hole.
- - So now you have air (or water) moving in to replace the
missing air (or water).
That's wind.

The air heats up and hot air goes up and then the cold air slips under it (cool air=wind)
