I believe the answer is A. chemical bonds must be broken. Bonds are forces of attraction between atoms of elements in any given compound. A compound is a substance that is formed by the chemical combination of two or more elements in definite proportions. Chemical compounds break by breaking different types of bonds between different atoms/molecules/compounds. Energy is used during bond breakage processes.
