The answer is D. Reflection from wet Asphalt

    Explanation:

Unpolarized light hits a surface and the reflected light is polarized. The polarized light is always parallel to the surface it reflected off of. So, in order for the light to be horizontally polarized, the surface it reflected off of must be a horizontal surface. The only ones that work is D and E. However, D is a refraction, not a reflection, so the only answer is D.

    B. Refraction from a glass surface

    D reflection from wet asphalt.

    Explanation:

When light passes from air to glass, it gets partially reflected and partially refracted The refracted light rays are horizontally polarized. The reflected rays are also partially horizontally polarized in a horizontal plane.

Horizontally polarized light is produced upon reflection at a non metallic surface. Vertical polarization components are either refracted or absorbed.

At the surface of separation, refracted light is mostly vertically polarized. It is the reflected light that undergoes horizontal polarization,.

When unpolarized light is bounced off the reflecting surface of water, only the light which is reflected off the surface will be horizontally polarized light, in a plane that is parallel to the surface.
