A feverish student weighing 75,000 grams was immersed in 400,000 g of water at 4.0°C to try to reduce the fever. The student's body temperature dropped from 40.0°C to 37.0°C. Assuming the specific heat of the student to be 3.77 J / (g·°C), what was the final temperature of the water?

    Heat lost = (75000) (3.77) (3) = 848250 J = heat gained by water

    848250 = 400000 (4.814) (T)

    T = 0.507 C

    4 + 0.507 = 4.507 C
