c. if 1.00 gram of each substance starts at the same temperature and absorbs 1.00 x 102 j of heat. what would be the difference between their final temperatures?

    Heat gained or lost by a system is calculated by the product of mass, specific heat and the difference in the temperature of a process. We can calculate the final temperatures of the systems above as follows:

    H = mC (Tf-Ti)

    CO2

    100 = 1 (0.840) (Tf - 273.15)

    tf = 392.20 K

    CaCO3

    100 = 1 (0.820) (Tf - 273.15)

    Tf = 395.10 K

    There is about 2 degrees celsius difference.
