    Directed vertically upwards.

    Explanation:

    Every object on the surface of the earth is acted upon by the gravitational force of the Earth. This attractive force is proportional to the product of earth's mass and object's mass and inversely proportional to the square of the radius of earth. The earth exerts a force on object that is directed towards its center whereas the object exerts an equal force on the earth in the opposite direction. The force acting on the body due to earth's gravitation is given by

    F = GMm/R²

    = mg

    Since the laptop is placed on the desk, it exerts a force equal to its weight on the table. According to Newton's third law, the desk exerts an equal force on the laptop but directed vertically upwards.
