A sailor pulls a boat horizontally alongside a dock for 10.0 m with a rope angled at 40.0°. He uses a force of 100.0 N. How much work did he do on the boat?

    First, we find the horizontal component of the force.

    Fx = Fcos∅

    Fx = 100 cos (40)

    Fx = 76.6 Newtons

    Work = Force x distance

    Work = 76.6 x 10

    Work = 766 Joules
