This is true.
Why?
Rock comes in many forms and is caused in different ways. Lava comes up from volcanoes (yes quickly) but what happens then? It is gradually eroded by weather. It breaks down into small rocks and stones and then into fine grains often forming very rich soil. Eventually, it reaches rivers where it is deposited as mud. Some carry on into the sea as salt. Both mud and silt solidify.
