A 50.9 kg box initially at rest is pushed 5.65 m along a rough, horizontal floor with a constant applied horizontal force of 247.25 N. The work done by the applied force is 1.40 * 10³ J

    Explanation:

    Hi there!

    The work done by the applied force is calculated as follows:

    W = F · d · cos θ

    Where:

    W = work.

    F = applied force.

    d = displacement of the box.

    θ = angle between the force and the displacement.

    Then:

    W = 247.25 N · 5.65 m · cos (0°)

    W = 1.40 * 10³ J

    The work done by the applied force is 1.40 * 10³ J

    Notice that the work done by the applied force is not the work done on the box. The work done on the box will be the work done by the applied force plus the work done by friction.
