5) Students use a balance to determine the mass of a marble is 7.5 grams. A graduated bottle contains 10.0 milliliters of water. When the marble is carefully lowered into the graduated bottle and is completely covered with water the volume of the water containing the marble has increased to 12.5 milliliters.     Density = mass / volume

    by using the displacement method in determining the volume of the object, the volume of the object is equal to the final volume minus the initial volume.

    so the density = mass / (final volume - initial volume)

    density = 7.5 g / (12.5 ml - 10 ml)

    density = 3 g / ml is the density of the marble
