There are four ways that the atmosphere can affect light. These are the reflection, refraction, scattering, and absorption.

Reflection refers to the change of direction of a wavefront. In reflection, light is sent back to space and this occurrence is named as "Albedo".

Refraction happens when light bends in the atmosphere reaching the ground cause by the change of its transmission medium.

Scattering takes place when the wavelength gets distributed and altered all around at various wavelengths which caused the blue color.

Absorption is the absorption of light by a material.
