Why does star formation occur primarily in the disk of the galaxy?

    Both stars and planets are formed from clouds that are filled with dust and other interstellar matters. Most of them are concentrated in the galaxy disk. The galaxy disk contains mostly young stars, gas and dust. They are concentrated in spiral arms and some old stars are also present in the disk.
