Specular reflection and diffuse reflection are concepts that can be applied to every room that you have ever been in. Describe how these concepts can be applied to your kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom.

Reflection is the process by which a ray of light is sent back through its path on hitting a plane surface. The two types are; specular and diffuse reflections.

Specular reflection occurs at a smooth plane surface, while diffuse reflection occurs at a rough plane surface. At the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom any smooth reflecting surface (e. g tiles, glass etc) causes specular reflection which enhances the brightness of the rooms. While any rough surface (e. g walls etc) causes diffuse reflection.

The smooth plane surfaces constrain the rays of light to propagate in the same direction, while the rough surface would make the rays of light to propagate in different directions on hitting the surface.
